After taking pictures every day for a couple years in a row, I've definitely noticed the occasional period of "meh." Actually, since Evan was born and my priorities have shifted, it seems like there have been a lot more days when I've taken a mediocre picture and decided it was good enough.
I started week 6 with a emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-34035741740875186732013-05-23T15:18:00.000-07:002013-05-23T22:38:27.245-07:00done with januaryLet's finally finish up January, shall we?
Evan was really starting to grow out of his 0-3 month clothes by the end of the month, so I made an effort to take pictures of some of my favorite outfits of his before retiring them. First picture of the week: his "daddy's little buddy" onesie. We've been calling him "buddy" pretty much from the beginning, which made this onesie especially fitting. The other day, in the midst of the busyness, I remembered that I have a blog. And that blog is terribly behind—over 3 months behind, in fact.
The fourth weekly installment of 2013 begins with a picture from the early days of Evan playing with his hands. Now, at 6 months old, he's pretty comfortable picking up toys, turning them over, passing them from hand to hand, and emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-27047646038579426112013-04-12T14:53:00.001-07:002013-04-12T14:53:15.009-07:00the baby at three monthsThe third week of 2013 started with a picture of some home decor in
the window of the Aldea store on Valencia. It's one of those shops that

always check the window displays when I walk by.

Monday's subject was some baby socks, and I opted to shoot them with the baby attached. Evan was wearing his striped outfit from Thanksgiving, which was getting a little tight at size 0-3 mo. On a whim, I decided to put the matching socks on him, even though those were 6-12 mo. (He was about 2 1/2 months old at the time.) They ended up fitting surprisingly well, emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-44354199221767519112013-03-26T15:10:00.000-07:002013-03-26T15:21:01.221-07:00back on the horse-wagonHey, remember when it was January? Me too. In fact, we're going to see just how much I remember about when it was January, because it's time to start catching up with blogs for the current year, now that I've finished 2012.
First thing's first: I decided to do another 365 project. Or rather, I decided to continue... If you're keeping track, this is my fourth year of daily pictures. I did 2009, emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-76118412024301630482013-03-13T14:51:00.000-07:002013-03-13T14:51:03.022-07:00end of the lineAt long last, it's the final post for 2012. Took me long enough... It turns out, it's more difficult to catch up on blogging than it is to catch up with posting pictures. The blog just never quite recovered after Evan was born, since I have to be in the right mood to write these things. Add to that a baby who likes to stir and/or wake up 40 minutes after the start of every nap lately, like emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-63288458352641083712013-02-28T14:37:00.001-08:002013-02-28T14:37:41.147-08:00almost thereOne more post before the final one from 2012. To start, we have another picture from the window of the Aldea Ninos store. I took a lot of walks down there with Evan—and sometimes Steve—in December, since we were on the hunt for Christmas presents. I think this was the day that we bought Elsa's gifts.

The first picture of week 50 was of Evan's usual smiley time. Every morning after he ate, I used to prop him up with the Boppy pillow on the floor. I ate my breakfast while sitting in front of him, and he took the opportunity to smile and coo. Of course, it was hard to capture the smiles with the camera.

Steve and I took yet another walk down Valencia that Sunday afternoon, stopping at Craftsman and Wolves for a snack and probably scouting out some Christmas presents on the way. The picture of the day turned out to be of some ornaments in the window of Laku. I liked the mouse and the little house, but the tree was also pretty cool.

They had come for Evan's birth, almost two weeks before his due date, although I ended up going into labor at the end of their second full day here. And they stayed until he was about five and a half weeks old, leaving the week after Thanksgiving. I was hoping for better results than when I had tried using the "Brand New" sticker... That time, at one week old, I stuck it to his onesie, and he proceeded to crumple and claw it before I got very many pictures taken. This blog is a different story, though... It's still stuck in mid-November, so I should probably chip off another week.
The picture from Sunday, November 11, is of Evan drinking his first bottle of milk. Technically, it wasn't really his first bottle ever. They emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-78965254310116811682012-12-31T13:45:00.002-08:002012-12-31T13:45:29.614-08:00week of the sleeping babyThere was a definite theme to most of the pictures from week 45: sleeping baby. Since that's how Evan still spent the majority of his time at 2-3 weeks old, my choices for baby pictures were somewhat limited. Also, I wasn't feeling terribly inspired to do anything more creative.
First, we have Evan napping along with his grandparents on a Sunday afternoon. We begin with a Sunday project: hand- and footprinting the baby. They either don't do this at our hospital or they snuck it in when we weren't paying attention, so we didn't get the opportunity to get Evan's prints for the baby book while we were there. Instead, I had to order a DIY kit from Amazon. I wouldn't have bothered, but there's a page for it in the baby emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-12634724054393665392012-12-17T11:15:00.000-08:002012-12-17T11:15:18.440-08:00settling inWeek 43: first full week with a baby! But we'll start with a picture of the other little "honey badger." That Sunday, we had a nurse home visit in the morning to make sure we were on the right track, since we wouldn't be going to the pediatrician until Tuesday. Then in the afternoon, we spent more time hanging out in the nursery with the grandparents and Dan and Carmen, playing Pass the Evan. emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-9402824153530601122012-12-08T10:25:00.001-08:002012-12-08T10:25:39.565-08:00the big weekWeek 42 of the 366 project was a big one; it ended with us bringing a baby home from the hospital! It started less eventfully, however. It was week 38 of pregnancy, and I had just about completed my pre-baby to-do list. That Sunday's task was to bake some banana bread for the freezer. Since that kept me busy, the picture of the day turned out to be rather similar to the one I took when I made emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-27978269777800585542012-11-22T13:53:00.001-08:002012-12-08T10:25:51.290-08:00birth storyFive weeks later and just in time for Thanksgiving, here is Evan's birth story:
Contractions started on Wednesday, October 17, sometime around 6 or 7pm, but I thought that they were more of the same Braxton Hicks contractions that I had been experiencing for the last few months. Having just been to the doctor earlier that afternoon for my 38 (and a half) week appointment, I assumed that the emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-79191916623453402292012-11-09T11:08:00.002-08:002012-11-09T11:08:24.417-08:00the third trimesterI had high hopes—too high, apparently—of writing this third trimester blog post while I was still actually in my third trimester of pregnancy. I kept putting it off, but I told myself that I would write it over the weekend that marked the beginning of week 39 so that the details would all be current. As it turned out, I was a little busy coming home from the hospital with a newborn that weekend. emily elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03552073075266786736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542901352515614430.post-38246048153815513212012-11-05T10:56:00.000-08:002012-11-05T10:56:12.583-08:00the to-do listWeek 41 was all about checking things off of my pre-baby to-do list. Steve's parents were arriving the next Monday, and while I had no indication of when I would go into labor, Monday was kind of my unofficial deadline for getting stuff done. After that, I told myself that the baby was allowed to come anytime. (I went into labor two days later.)

Evan was born on Thursday, October 18, and now I'm having to catch up on a whole lot of photo editing in addition to the blog posts. So. On we go.
All but one of my pictures for week 40 of the 365 project featured baby stuff. It was actually on Tuesday of that week, but we celebrated it ahead of time, on Sunday evening. Dan and Carmen set up pizza crusts that they had made ahead of time, as well as several choices for toppings so people could make their own combinations. That Sunday, September 9, Steve and I made a Target run to get a few things that we needed, and then we went to Bi-Rite Creamery for our walk and a late snack. I have a Moleskine notebook—the same one I used for the Europe trip, actually—in which I've been writing the various developments each week. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be able to remember a lot of the details.
